Giving its most controversial and classic models a spin, Swiss haute horlogerie manufacture Audemars Piguet has announced a heady suite of tourbillon pieces.
In a first for the marque, a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon has been unveiled with the team at Le Brassus releasing three 41mm references in stainless steel, titanium and 18-carat pink gold.
The new trio is powered by calibre 2950, the manufacture’s latest generation of selfwinding movement combining a flying tourbillon with a central rotor. Here, the tourbillon takes centre stage – visible from the dial and caseback sides – while the caseback also reveals the movement’s refined decorations such as “Côtes de Genève,” satin-brushing, snailing and hand-polished chamfers. Also visible is the dedicated openworked oscillating weight in pink gold or rhodium-toned pink gold. Of the trio, the titanium reference presents a sandblasted slate grey dial and the Royal Oak’s trademark ‘Tapisserie’ pattern while the dial’s grey shades and white gold hour markers echo the flying tourbillon.
Elsewhere the stainless-steel version lands with a smoked blue ‘Tapisserie’ dial with white gold indicators, while the 18-carat pink gold sees a smoked grey sunburst ‘Tapisserie’ dial enriched with pink gold hour markers. The tourbillon is also formed of pink gold.
Each of the three new Royal Oaks is water-resistant to 50 metres and is attached to the wrist by its integrated bracelet and triple blade folding clasp.
Not content with the trio Royal Oak tourbillons, AP has also unveiled a fresh take on the Code 11.59 Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon.
Available in two variants, a gold dial is covered in a fine blend of crushed aventurine glass and ‘Grand Feu’ enamel that combines for a starry effect while the second variant sees a black dial, hand-finished with 18-carat pink gold hour markers, Arabic numerals and hands further elevated by a 41mm 18-carat pink gold case.
Both models share the flying tourbillon cage at the 6 o’clock while a clear case back reveals the selfwinding manufacture calibre 2950 movement that boasts 65-hours of power reserve and 30-metres of water resistance. Both are secured via a hand-stitched black alligator strap that uses a solid gold folding clasp.
The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon and Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon are available now. Price upon request.
