For the majority of those working for home, beyond some (let’s be honest here) vacuous office chat, the smile and necessary daily skills of a local, favoured barista has been sorely missed.
That is, until now, and the elevated daily ‘cafe quality’ coffee delivered by Espresso Company Australia and Rocket Espresso’s luxuriant R Cinquantotto machine. Touted as the ideal ‘prosumer’ coffee machine, the Cinquantotto is a professional, designer device for the domicile – a sleek, timeless and hardwearing stainless-steel offering that delivers the perfect cup, every time.
Its 580ml boiler, from which it gets its name – cinquantotto being Italian for 58 – is used for exacting espresso extraction, while temperature adjustments to the dual independently operated boilers give optimum precision to any roast style or coffee type.
Traditional levers and knobs shouldn’t distract you from the machine’s technological ability. Positioned to the side and beyond sight lines, sits a communication pod that features a vibrant touch screen allowing the easy selection, adjustment and exploration of a range of flavours. The detachable pod, meanwhile, features an automatic on/off timer function so that your machine is ready when you need it (or, 6am).
Such tech touches certainly don’t render the traditional dials redundant, with the cronometro shot timer above the power switch assisting the calibration of espresso production to a preferred grinder of choice.
A commercial grade rotary pump and motor can be connected to mains water for a truly professional experience, however, the machine is just as capable in working from its 2.5-litre internal reservoir.
While the steam wand can’t teach you perfect milk-frothing technique, adjustable steam pressure with up to 1.8-litres of steam delivered through a commercial-grade apparatus certainly helps.
