Away from all the SUV speak surrounding the Australian launch of the DBX, Aston Martin has been working hard at what they do best, sports cars.
And after being unveiled in 2018, The Aston Martin Vantage Coupe has finally received a convertible compatriot, with the British marque today unveiling the Vantage Roadster.
The drop-top version of the Vantage shares the same powerplant as the coupe, with a beefy 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pumping 380kW and 685Nm of torque through its 8-speed ZF transmission. That’s enough to send the Vantage Roadster from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 305km/h.
Of course, it shares the good looks of the coupe, with drivers now able to feel the wind in their hair thanks to an exceptionally fast fabric hood, capable of sub-7-second operation, the fastest for any fully automatic convertible roof on the market.
And as it is the 70th anniversary of the Vantage name, Aston Martin is introducing the company’s iconic ‘vane’ grille as an option, available on both Coupe and Roadster as an alternative.
Aston Martin President and CEO, Dr Andy Palmer says, “Open-top Aston Martins are always firm favourites with our customers, so it’s very exciting to introduce the Vantage Roadster. For many, driving with the roof down is the true definition of the sports car experience as it truly brings your senses to life.”
If you’re worried about the foldable roof taking storage space, the team at Aston Martin have designed it to have a minimal impact, leaving the roadster with a respectable 200-litres of boot space – allegedly enough for a golf bag.
Underneath the car, the Vantage Roadster shares the same adaptive damping, dynamic stability control and torque vectoring as the coupe and offers a dizzying array of modes tuning the car to the driver’s preferred character.
The Aston Martin Vantage Roadster is set to arrive in Australia in Q3 with a baseline price of $315,000 + on roads.
