Last night saw the official unveiling of Louis Vuitton’s refurbished Sydney Maison. Having spent the last 12 months under wraps for renovation, the four-level store was finally revealed, taking form as a glossy, high-end retailer in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
Re-imagined by acclaimed New York architect Peter Marino, the iconic 1847 heritage building gave Marino plenty to work with. Originally built as a bank, there were many of the original building’s aspects respected – like the still visible bank safe.
However, homages aside, the interior has been completely refreshed, flush with art installations curated by Marino and Louis Vuitton, such as the long-running Objets Nomads collection which sees renowned designers Barber and Ogserby, Atelier Oi (who had several spiral lamps on display) and Campana Brothers amongst Objets by Louis Vuitton.
Walking into the store sees you in leather goods, watches, jewellery, travel, fragrance and more while the first floor represents the latest ready to wear and shoe collections from Nicolas Ghesquière and the basement level holds the men’s universe by Artistic Director Virgil Abloh – a handy expansion for the boys.
Resting on top of the store is the ‘Apartment’ which plays host to a series of intimate salons, a gallery – boasting artworks from Vik Muniz and Van Gogh – and a dining area is accessed privately and heightens the experience for those lucky enough to see inside.
The opening saw as many as 500 guests, all of which piled into the Maison, Ruinart Champagne or Rosé in hand, to get their very first glimpse. Among them, Julie Bishop, Justin Hemmes, Mike Cannon-Brookes, Elsa Pataky, Lily May Mac, Natasha Oakley and Jordan Barret were all in attendance before being whisked away to the after-party at Sydney’s idyllic Campbell’s Cove where the musical talents of Flume and Vera Blue helped the guests celebrated into the night.
