Australians are more than comfortable when surrounded by water. So Lilypad Palm Beach, the floating ‘members only’ villa near Sydney’s northern beaches, is likely to get a warm reception to its newly opened doors to the general public.
The completely unique one-bedroom property is the work of lead designer Chuck Anderson whose aim was to create the ultimate boating experience – without the boat. The property is located just off Palm Beach, an hour’s drive from Sydney’s CBD or less by Sydney Seaplanes flight, and although it is in the company of million-dollar beachfront homes, Lilypad definitely has the best view.
“People who go boating don’t do it for the travel, they do it for the access to locations. We thought we’d hunker down the perfect location and remove the travelling from A to B,” explains Anderson, a Northern Beaches local.
The switch from a membership to a booking model (starting at $900 a person twin share) provides greater access to the property. The property offers a loft-style king bed, onboard fireplace and sundeck and to ensure guest stays are as seamless and luxurious as possible, a private concierge and solar-powered on-call tender boat. Though with a fully stocked fridge, chef-prepared meals, and an onboard cellar with 40 bottles from Veuve Clicquot, Glenmorangie whisky, Cloudy Bay and Cape Mentelle wines, why would you want to leave?
“We wanted to give people the benefits of boating but without the boating proportions. Even on bigger boats, the bathrooms and bedrooms still feel like a boat, so Lilypad was designed to eliminate all that,” says Anderson.
Lilypad has also partnered with local restaurants and experiences to ensure that you make the most of the space and its surrounds. The Boathouse provides breakfast to your deck, while Barrenjoey House can serve dinner on board. Nearby Portuguese Bay, accessible via the tender boat, is a great spot for a picnic.
Beyond overnight stays, the property is also available to host intimate events. With capacity for long lunches of up to 16 people, you can choose to have a private chef on board.
Lilypad Palm Beach can be booked here or via Airbnb.
