Ready for a weekend in the countryside complete with a twilight dinner with expertly matched wines, wine cocktail mixology classes, and back-vintage tastings? If any of these things sound like your idea of heaven, then the Taste of Rutherglen festival is for you.
The program showcases the best of North-East Victoria’s wine and produce, and the organisers promise this year’s festival will be the biggest and best on record.
Taking place on 10 and 11 March 2018, there is a stellar line-up of activities and menus for the whole family to enjoy.
The festival features entry into 19 Rutherglen wineries, with each one having something unique to taste sip and savour. There are free winery tours at Valhalla (hand plunging and foot stomping optional); a wine & macaron matching masterclass at John Gehrig Wines; and a wine, gin and beer tasting at Cofield Wines.
Even the kids are kept happy with jumping castles, croquet and food menus designed for younger palettes.
In addition to the daytime winery events, there is an array of exclusive dinners and experiences to indulge in.
You might like to start the Friday evening with a relaxed dinner under the stars at Campbell Wines. There will be food from Andiamo, matched vino, and Adam Toms playing live on the winery lawns.
On Saturday evening there are a number of dining options, including ‘A Toast to the Art’, where you will be able to take in the new Aboriginal Exhibitions Gallery before a delightful three-course meal with wine-matching from Rutherglen Estate.
The indulgence continues on Sunday night with Dinner in the Vines at All Saints Estate. This event celebrates the autumn equinox and is hosted in the Rose Garden overlooking the vineyards.
The designated driver gets free general entry to the event; however, if you’d all prefer to truly savour all the tastes of Rutherglen, there is a hop-on-hop-off bus for an additional fee.
