If winter feels like it’s dragging on and on, maybe it’s a good time to start planning a holiday.
Think luxury accommodation with white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and captivating views in an exclusive location that is both incredibly convenient but also private.
If that sounds too good to be true, it could be time for a ‘staycation’ in Sydney via boutique rental agency Contemporary Hotels and Luxe Houses.
Founded by Terry Kaljo more than 20 years ago, Contemporary Hotels launched its first boutique hotels in Sydney, the Medusa and the Kirketon.
Kaljo is an interior designer, stylist and mother of three who reinvented many iconic Sydney homes such as La Piscine, as spotted in Vogue and Conde Nast.
The company has recently branched out into luxury homes and claims to be the first luxury holiday accommodation provider with a hotel background. As such, they can arrange as much or as little of a stay as the guest requires.
“We can manage everything of the booking process, from when they leave their home to when they return,” managing director Matthew Fleming told The Robb Report.
Guests may be welcomed by a private concierge and receive little luxuries like a bottle of champagne or Aesop pampering products, and can choose whether they’d like a welcome hamper or other treats.
Most guests enjoy the privacy of having their own home, with the convenience of having someone on call.
“We’ve organised private jets for people and the in-house chef is always a favourite,” Fleming says.
The agency manages around 200 properties, each hand picked by the team. “We choose properties that that have something special about them, an X-factor that our guests will appreciate.”
One example is the Tamarama Luxe. This Greg Natale-designed apartment is on the famed Bondi-to-Bronte walk and has uninterrupted beach and ocean views. Its two levels of living space feature Kelly Wearstler furnishings and bespoke wallpapered feature walls including designs from DeGourney, so the views inside are almost as impressive as outside. It’s the ultimate apartment for the discerning holiday-maker.
The Eclipse, on the oceanfront at Palm Beach, is another exclusive choice. This spectacular home designed by renowned contemporary architect Michael Fountain has unfettered views of the Pacific Ocean and Barrenjoey Lighthouse. Five bedrooms sleep eight adults and four children comfortably, so you can easily invite some friends to stay and help you share a bottle of champagne on the balcony while you luxuriate in the Sydney summer sun.
